Who We Are
Rio Hondo Artists’ Residency (RHAR) is an annual dance-based artistic residency program designed to forge connections: to the land, to our culture, and between people.
We believe in six C’s that drive human interaction: community, culture, collaboration, care, connection, and creation.
From June 22-July 3, 2026, we will bring together selected dance artists from across the country to work in collaboration with local Taos artists who work in many mediums. Together, they will create work directly inspired by this place and its people.
Our dream is that these days spent together strengthen the network of artists collaborating in Taos and beyond to create a richer and more interconnected tapestry of artistic voices in New Mexico.
We chose to base RHAR in Taos, because it is a community that embraces its people and inspires us to lift each other up. We also recognize that Taos is a rural community where people lack access to services and artists may feel like they are working in isolation.
Our work aims to minimizes the impact of these problems by creating a reciprocal relationship between creators and audience members designed to activate the entire community through free programming and events that give people direct access to the arts-making process.
Summer 2026
Over the course of 12 days, the community is invited to participate in the exploration & development of new works by choreographic residents Zachariah Bigbee, Athena Dunleavy & Anaka Weiss-Jones and collaborative artists.
We invite you to join us for as much or as little as you’d like. Come explore movement; observe the rehearsal process; join us in conversation; or attend First Edition, the works-in-progress showcase at the end of the residency.
We look forward to meeting you!
First Edition, June 22-July 3
Above all, RHAR is an manifestation of the power of art as a universal language that offers people unique ways to connect to themselves, to each other, and to the land. Together, we can create more opportunities for people in our community.
That’s why all our events are free & open to the public.
Your support and belief keeps the flame lit and allows us to provide free, accessible community programming and strengthen the network of artists collaborating in Taos and beyond.
